in 2019, we supported AEG Presents to achieve ISO 20121 and ISO 14001 Certification for British Summer Time, a 60,000-capacity outdoor event space with high risk activities, sensitive receptors and nearby residents. The principal focus of this work was to ensure that all sustainability tactics implemented in previous years was supported by a clear strategic framework and the necessary management controls to deliver BST’s vision to ‘model excellence in event sustainability and innovate industry best practice.’

To support this vision, a materiality analysis was undertaken that gave rise to eight key objectives, targets and plans that directly support and contribute to The Royal Park’s sustainability goals. A collaborative ESAP (Event Sustainability Action Plan) ensured full team engagement and performance outcomes that led to a roadmap for other events to follow.  Practices included achieving zero waste to landfill, ensuring all food packaging and cutlery was bio-degradable and a ‘leave no trace’ policy so every single item dropped in the grass was picked up by the litter team. A dedicated Green Team also worked to maximise recycling rates, and 100% of the fuel used was from renewable sources. Fuel usage was decreased by 25% and carbon emissions were reduced by an impressive 103 tonnes.
