Samantha Wilson PIEMA
Founder and Managing Director
With an academic background in environmental and sustainability management, health, safety and wellbeing, social psychology and inter-personal communications, Sam founded Syntiro Associates in 2009.
Sam has a 100% proven track record in taking clients through to successful ISO 20121, ISO 14001, ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certification through the use of an Integrated Management System (IMS).
In a distinguished 15 year track record in developing sustainability in the creative and events sectors, Sam has worked with RPM, Brands at Work and George P. Johnson to enable them to meet event sustainability requirements; project managed the installation of an ISO 20121 management system across key competition venues for the London Olympic and Paralympic Games; worked with DRPG to be the first event agency worldwide to achieve ISO 20121 and 14001 certification; took Stagestruck through to successful ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 20121 and ISO 14001 certification, supported the executive team at ExCel to gain ISO 20121 and ISO 14001 certification; and helped AEG Presents to win the multi-million Hyde Park tender. Sam has also worked with M&C Saatchi and Havas to achieve ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification and supported Havas London to prepare for and achieve B Corp Certification.
Sam is a pioneer in Sustainability education. She is a university module leader in ISO 20121 at the University of Sussex and developed a 26-week module in sustainability used by a number of universities to engage students in sustainability management. Sam has chaired the Impartiality Committee for an international certification body, presented the China CSR Awards in Beijing in 2016 and has been a mentor and supporter of the EVCOM Clarion Awards over a number of years. She is the author of numerous industry articles relating to sustainability and environmental management.
Sam oversees the quality of delivery of all Syntiro Associates projects, conducts initial agency audits, shapes Syntiro recommendations, leads and facilitates workshops, and develops and delivers specific elements of work, including training.
Richard Packer MSc, PIEMA, PTLLS, CertNCRQ
Senior Project Consultant
With over 15 years’ experience in sustainability and environmental consultancy, assisting global organisations to improve their performance and achieve a range of ISO certifications, including ISO 14001, ISO 20121, ISO 45001, and ISO 9001, Rick provides professional sustainability support for worldwide organisations, agencies and events.
In particular, Rick supports internal audits and explores ways to optimise strategic opportunities, supports negotiations with certification bodies to leverage benefits, conducts initial reviews and workshops, develops operational controls to ensure maximum integration, effectiveness and efficiency and supports the global rollout of programmes.
Stephen Lowndes BEng (Hons) MSc CEng MCIBSE MEI
Lead Energy and Carbon Consultant
Stephen has years’ of experience in carbon and energy management for public and private sector clients. Stephen has worked with Syntiro for Havas, M&C Saatchi, Hearst Magazines and other media clients, helping them achieve compliance with ESOS (Energy Savings Opportunities Scheme) and SECR (Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting) requirements and enabling them to set carbon targets against a net-zero timeline.
Stephen works with the United Kingdom Accreditation Services (UKAS) as Technical Consultant for the ISO 50001 Energy Management Standard, providing consultancy services to clients on achieving ISO compliant delivery programs. He is a Registered Professional Energy Consultant (EI), Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP), registered ESOS Lead Assessor and member of the UK Association of Energy Engineers.
Abigael Brain BA (Hons)
Abigael Brain graduated with a First-Class Honours degree in event management from the University of Sussex. She undertook a 26-week third year module in ISO 20121 taught by Sam Wilson and was awarded a first in this module alongside writing a dissertation focussing on CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) which was also awarded a first. She has five years of experience in project management, predominantly within the charity sector and music industry, as well as running events independently.
Abigael has worked for Syntiro for two years specialising in developing event sustainability solutions and excels in ensuring these are easy to use and deliver tangible outcomes for clients. She also assists in the creation of SEMS (Sustainable Event Management System) documentation and supports project administration working for clients such as AEG Presents, Marble and RPM.
Lorna Lenihan Grad IOSH, MIIRSM RSP
Lead Health and Safety Consultant
Lorna is a highly recommended safety consultant with over 12 years’ experience. Lorna is brilliant at bringing the ‘human touch’ to Fire & Safety and excels at simplifying complex legislation for end users. She builds relationships quickly and continually develops her skills and expertise to enable a best-in-class service to Syntiro clients.
Lorna helps Syntiro clients develop pragmatic, user-friendly health and safety policies and procedures and undertakes fire and general risk assessments to ensure clients are compliant and meet industry best practice. An experienced workshop facilitator, Lorna delivers general health and safety training for Syntiro Clients as well as specialist training, including Fire Marshal, Working at Height and COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health).
Peter Chung MSc, PgDip
Consultant and Lead Auditor
Peter Chung is a highly experienced consultant and UKAS and ANAB approved Lead Auditor in ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 and works with clients worldwide. Peter’s qualifications include Masters (MSc) Degree in Environmental Management, PG Diploma in H&S and Waste Management, NEBOSH General Certificate, IEMA Approved Principle Auditor. Peter has provided delivery of accredited CIEH and IEMA training courses.
Peter undertakes internal audits for Syntiro clients, ensuring they receive the very best support to pave the way for a smooth certification audit. Peter also supports the strategic development of the IMS and develops programmes to ensure the system aligns with brand purpose and meets all intended outcomes.
Consultant and Lead Auditor
Stephen Bowman worked in waste regulations and with the Environment Agency for 20 years until becoming a sought-after consultant and Lead Certification Auditor. He is a Specialist Member of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (SIRSM). Stephen is the appointed Lead Auditor for numerous ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 27001, ISO 14001 and ISO 20121 clients and works around the world on external and internal audits and development of effective business systems.
Steve provides specialist support for Syntiro clients in waste management and legal compliance, undertakes internal audits and assists the development of a business focused system across the full range of International Standards. He excels at putting clients at ease and breaking down complex issues into simple easy-to-use solutions.
Fiona Oxley is Syntiro’s specialist DSE (Display Screen Equipment) consultant. Fiona has over 20 years of experience in the DSE field undertaking assessments and the analysis of DSE related data in order to enhance employee wellbeing, increase work productivity, comply with regulations and reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injury, potential claims and lost work time.
Originally trained through Capita Symonds, Fiona has been working for Syntiro since 2014. Fiona uses her considerable experiences and skills to carry out the assessments of those with specific diagnosed conditions, to train internal assessors and oversee the DSE assessment process, in an efficient, informative and nurturing manner.
Sustainability Marketing and Communications
Kitty Corrigan’s background is in magazine journalism, writing on sustainability issues for OVER21 Magazine and at Cosmopolitan, where she was Chief Sub Editor. She volunteered for WWF in Zimbabwe and worked as a sub editor on The Moscow Times. From 1996-2012 she was Deputy Editor and Eco Editor of Country Living Magazine, part of Hearst Magazines UK. There she worked with the Director of Facilities, Di Thorpe, to establish an environmental programme, Planet Hearst, which achieved carbon neutrality within five years.
Kitty helps Syntiro clients to tailor sustainability communications to the needs and expectations of specific audiences to ensure maximum impact; she is also adepts at supporting and motivating people to get engaged with steering groups.
H&S, Environment and Quality Consultant
Andy is both brilliant to work with and highly skilled at installing user-friendly mechanisms to effect cultural change. He has an in-depth knowledge of Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality issues, including the development and successful running of ISO 14001, ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
Andy works with the Syntiro team to bring clarity to strategic purpose and develop the initiatives that are required to ensure successful engagement, delivery and rollout. He is also an accredited Lead Auditor and undertakes internal audits and site inspections to ensure Syntiro Clients maintain their best-in-class status.
Tim Benson MA
Tim Benson is a highly skilled event energy specialist with wide experience in hands-on event sustainability management. A certified assessor for A Greener Festival, Tim works with Syntiro clients to audit event energy performance and create plans to meet sustainability objectives and reduce consumption, emissions and associated cost.
Tim’s achievements include delivering an 8,000L fuel saving for We Love Green Festival and consulting for Modern Sky on their portfolio of Super Strawberry Festivals across China. He is the Chair and Project Lead of Powerful Thinking, the outdoor events energy steering group, and also sits on the UK Live Music sustainability working group. Tim teaches at BIMM and Manchester Metropolitan University as part of his ongoing commitment to share best practice with the new generation of event managers.
The service Syntiro gives us is super and I could not praise Sam and her team enough. Sam is exceptionally knowledgeable, strong and unbiased and provides the kind of specialist support that is very difficult to source in-house.
